Abstract
Competency-based education (CBE) is an innovative pedagogical approach that focuses on students demonstrating their knowledge and skills in specific subjects, rather than simply progressing through a predetermined curriculum. This approach is reshaping education by allowing students to tailor their learning experiences to meet their unique needs and interests. Additionally, it offers students the chance to showcase their knowledge and skills in ways that are meaningful and relevant to them. This study outlines the integration of CBE with the UW Flex curriculum design, authentic assessments, and a subscription scheduling model, which has the potential to improve student outcomes and expand educational access for all learners.
