A Panoramic view of Sustainable Eco-tourism Practices in Kolli Hills of Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu India

Abstract

The tourism sector is one of the largest industries globally and it is among the fastest-growing segments of the economy. It has a diverse range of impacts, both advantageous and adverse, on individuals and the environment. Sustainable tourism development guidelines and management practices are relevant to all forms of tourism across various destinations, including both mass tourism and niche tourism segments. The principles of sustainability address the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions of tourism development. This paper seeks to evaluate the success of sustainable ecotourism practices in Kolli Hills, particularly concerning the tourist experience. The research was conducted using both primary and secondary data. The investigation focused on six prominent sites: Agayaganga Waterfalls, Arapaleeswar Temple, Botanical Garden, Boat house, Masi Aruvi, and Semmedu, located in the Namakkal district. Data collection was performed through a structured interview schedule. A thorough analysis was carried out to ascertain the current status of sustainable tourism in the area, resulting in a set of recommendations based on the findings. A detailed conclusion has been presented based on the results obtained.
