Asian Tourism Research (ATR) was established as a scholarly initiative of the Asian Tourism Research Secretariat at the School of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University, India. Conceived to address the growing need for region-specific tourism scholarship, ATR aims to critically engage with the diverse and evolving tourism phenomena across Asia. The journal is part of a larger academic vision of the Secretariat, which also organizes annual conferences, international symposia, and graduate research colloquiums that bring together scholars, practitioners, and students working in Asian tourism contexts.
Launched to provide an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary research, ATR publishes peer-reviewed original articles, conceptual papers, and short research communications. Its commitment to open access publishing and academic rigor reflects the Secretariat’s mission to democratize knowledge and amplify diverse voices within tourism studies. Though recently established, ATR aspires to become a leading academic resource in tourism research with an Asian focus.
